Fantastic make-over and new owners at the Rupert
When was the last time you visited Grantchester? Aren’t we lucky to be so close to one of the prettiest villages in Cambridgeshire? This picturesque village boasts beautiful scenery, pretty cottages, a tea garden set at an orchard and excellent pubs. One of the most iconic pubs is the Rupert Brooke, named after the famous war poet who once lived in Grantchester.
A vibrant look and more outdoor seating
We’re excited to share that this beautiful pub is now under new ownership and has had a fantastic facelift. The revamp has created a vibrant look and more outdoor seating to enjoy the sunny weather. So, who is the team behind these exciting changes
An award-winning team
If you have been to the award-winning pub The Plough in Coton, you might have met Pascky Benedetto. He and his wife Laura were the driving forces behind this successful pub on the outskirts of Cambridge. In August, they handed over the reins to their cousin Pasquale and his wife Benitta so they could take on their new project in Grantchester, the Rupert Brooke.
Cambridge is loving it
On August 29th, Rupert Brooke opened its doors to the public, and it has received rave reviews about the decor, improved outdoor space, and food and drink menu. So it might not be surprising that the most popular times of the week, Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday, are booked quickly. I would definitely reserve a table to avoid disappointment if you plan to visit. Last Monday evening, when we popped over for dinner, the restaurant filled up pretty soon after we arrived at 6 pm.
Pub classics and fine wine
The menu includes pub classics, daily specials, delicious starters, bites, desserts, and their famous Traditional Carbonara Cuanciale, as well as a fine selection of wines. The prices are competitive, with many of the mains around £ 17, and the Negroni must be the best deal in Cambridge for only £ 6!
A fine selection of local Gin
With the Cambridge Gin Distillery on their doorstep, you can look forward to an incredible selection of their award-winning Gins. Pascky treated us to one of their newest creations, a single-cask series Cambridge Gin, matured for 12 months in a Margaux cask, part of a limited selection of 400 bottles. What an amazing finish to a fabulous evening. This fine Cambridge Gin was amazing! We were blown away. It tasted more like a Grappa than a Gin.
The spot for Sunday Lunch
And what about Sunday Lunch? Please don’t take it from me, but well-known local chefs dined here recently and raved about its excellent quality!
Any plans for Christmas Day?
Do you have any plans for Christmas Day? If you prefer relaxing with your family and friends instead of hanging over a steaming oven, book yourself in for a fine Christmas Day Lunch.
Happy eating!

p.s. One of the best ways to finish at the Rupert Brooke is to walk from Cambridge city centre through the famous Grantchester meadows, ending up here for a bite or refreshment. Your furry friends are welcome here, too!
